I met Victor on a cold, Friday afternoon at Tantra Coffee House. He was sitting with his coffee and cigarette and seemed to know everyone that was coming in and out of the building, proof of his already large prevalence in San Marcos. He classifies himself as a Folk singer/song writer. He’s a graduate from Texas State University. He came to Texas State because of a large family base here and began his music career with ‘open mic nights’ at venues like Tantra Coffee House and Cheatham Street Warehouse.

Soon he met friends Colin Colby (Victory March band member) and Sterling Finlay; they collaborated to create Victor Holk and the Pre-Recorded Tracks. Victor started booking shows and gained some attention through school organizations like the University Star and KTSW 89.9. He currently works at Cheatham Street Warehouse as the Productions Manager. There he got the opportunity to record his first album, which was released in January 2011, “There’s No There”. With six tracks Victor established his sound and dominance on the music scene. He currently is healing from a table saw accident that nearly took his left thumb but is ready to continue playing as soon as he can, around the San Marcos scene and beyond. Holk plans on traveling, “anywhere and everywhere,” in the next five years to grow his sound.

He told me, “There were always two tapes in the car as a kid, Roger Miller and John Prine.” He moved around South Texas all throughout his childhood listening to country and punk rockers, like Kurt Cobain, until he decided to start creating his own music at 11-years-old. At 15 he taught himself in a summer how to play the guitar.
Victor’s music is beautiful and unique and with his unforgettable, wicked beard, make sure he’s on your ‘must see’ list for My Radio music festival 2012! Trust me, you won’t be sorry!
